#4 is here!

Doug Linger here, Assistant Editor of Renard’s Menagerie. Issue #4 is out and available for buying! There’s some great stories in here, including “The Affairs of Dragons,” by Julie Frost, a tale of a man caught in the middle of a family feud between the stars. There’s also “Chrysanthemums and Cabbages” by Gerald Perkins, a well known author in furry writing circles who died last spring. This will thus be his last published story, and in his honor it is the cover story, with great artwork by Richard Bartrop gracing the front of the issue.

We apologize once again for the delay in getting this issue to you all. We hope you'll agree that that wait was worth it, however!

Issue 4

Just in case nobody's looked at a calendar, the October issue of Renard's Menagerie is late. A month late, as a matter of fact. For this, we apologize profusely.

But it IS coming! We did not abandon the magazine, and we certainly didn't abandon our loyal readers. The proofs have been approved, and the issue is being printed even as we speak. So do not despair, good readers, for your magazine is on the way. And your patience is VERY much appreciated!

Home again

Well, we've all made it safely back from RainFurrest. The magazine did very well in the dealer's room there, exceeding all our expectations. We actually sold out of the stock we brought with us on one issue, and nearly so on another. Meanwhile, we're slowly getting our name better known, which is never a bad thing.

So thanks to all who bought or even just stopped by our table for helping make our own convention experience such a good one!

Renard's is off to the RainFurrest!

Renard's Menagerie is packing its bags and going to a convention, a "furry" con called RainFurrest. We've co-opted a table with an artist and will have a noticeable presence in the dealer's room. This isn't the first con RM has attended (and it's definitely not the first its staff has attended!), so we have high hopes we'll get the word out and sell a good many copies there.

Speaking of copies, issue three has been shipped to those who have subscriptions and preorders, so everyone should get their copies soon. Hope you all like it as much as we enjoyed making it!

Hello, is this on?

Hello, Doug Linger here, Assistant Editor for Renard's Menagerie.

It certainly has been a while since this has been updated. A lot has happened since then. For one thing, I've taken over this blog in a bloodless coup. Bow to your new master!

Also, Renard's is no longer a potential magazine; it is a published, existing magazine! Indeed, issue three is on its way as I type this. We've published 13 stories and nine pieces of art, not including the three fabulous covers. Yes, we're a little proud.

We're getting plenty of submissions. Issue four is already filled and being laid out. But that doesn't mean we don't want more! More submissions means more and better stories for future issues! So don't be shy, and send in your works.

I'll be updating this blog a little more regularly than it has been in the past. Things are moving along now, and the staff is getting into a rhythm. There's more to report, and I'll be keeping you all updated as things happen. In the meantime, keep sending those stories, and keep on buying the magazine!

Water Dreams

Renard's Menagerie is now official being published by Water Dreams Productions LLC. This is my company, so don't worry, and it's aimed at producing high quality fiction magazines.

This is a big step towards the first issue. In the next few weeks I will be offering the first issue for sale via paypal and check. Right now this in only the first issue, but after the first issue is out we will begin offering subscriptions.

We have also added the Renard's Menagerie Forums so we can start building up a community.

There is still a lot to do before the first issue. We need art, an ISSN number (which we will have soon) and of course to finalize the publishing, but it's moving very quickly.

So... subscriptions

So, now that the first issue is coming along I need to start arranging some so I can start working with money. First off is a checking account for the magazine, then I can attach it to a paypal account, that way I can send out payment and take orders.

I'm not sure how I'll be handling this. I can have everything go through lulu.com, and let them handle the money, or I can take it myself and place the orders. Taking it myself allows me to take subscriptions, but how would I take credit cards? I guess I should talk to my bank about doing that.

Now I just need advertisers.
